Transformation
"Conscious creation- through changing our stories,
our beliefs of who we can become,
becomes the means by which we change ourselves."
Elizabet Sahtouris, evolution biologist, futurist, author on Living Systems Design
"Why do we need to transform?" you might ask.
Isn't life rolling along with pretty much everything we need if you are in the top 10% of the population on the planet? Yet even if you are in the top 10%, you still experience and witness suffering. We are suffering as a human species as shown by the data on gun violence; declining health; lives lost in wars, opioid and COVID epidemics; homeless and those malnourished; and those with limited healthcare, jobs, education, safety, or government stability. All of us are affected by climate change and the collapse of our natural resources, including the loss of vast eco-systems which our species has used to create our collective reality. And we all have had multiple heartbreaks with what life has handed us, some much more than others. We all yearn for something better to happen.
When this suffering is viewed from the evolutionary biology perspective of Darwinian survival of the fittest, we see that we won't survive as a species if we stay in this lopsided world of people who have more than they need extracting resources and those who have less than they need barely surviving.
There has to be another stage of development possible for homo sapiens. The good news is that many scientists, educators, philosophers, spiritual teachers, and regenerative thinkers see the ability of humanity to mature as a species, out of a juvenile stage into an adult stage.
We are able to witness ourselves and see from history that we have moved out of earlier mindsets and beliefs to meet challenges with better beliefs and better systems. Yet we always have repercussions arising from each stage of progress. With increased technology we create more weapons in addition to the many good things technology helps us do. We haven't solved for the disconnection leading to massive acts of violence.
With a bigger story about who we are — the observation that we are a species capable of maturation — can we can start to embody capacities that will bring us out of this quandary. We have to grow into a collective story that says we can think better, process emotions better, vision cooperation instead of competition and practice new skills that allow miracles -—things we can't do in our current consciousness — to come through.
We have the capability to create a world of living systems as Mother Nature does. That is a quantum leap forward for our species and our beloved planet.
As we walk life's path, allowing for uncharted territory to be witnessed and leaned into, we see the evolutionary shift happening. Let us hold precious what inspires and grounds us so that we can step together into this New Stage and New Age. Join our tribe in learning and practicing our next stage of humanity, healing ourselves, and creating the living systems that will expand our potential.
